HSE to begin disciplinary process in Roscommon case soon, says Minister

Minister for Children Barry Andrews has said that he expects disciplinary proceedings involving the care workers involved in the Roscommon child abuse case to begin soon.

It comes a day after details emerged of the abuse and neglect suffered by children in Roscommon at the hands of their parents.

"I understand from the HSE that they are going to commence HR disciplinary process and that there will be a quick turnaround in that regard," said Minister Andrews.

Minister Andrews has also confirmed that a national audit of child neglect cases is to be carried out.

The HSE is looking to reassure their relatives that four of the children who are still in state care will get appropriate care to address what a spokesperson calls the "fairly significant mountain" they have to climb in the wake of their experiences.

An audit of chronic abuse cases is already underway in Roscommon and two other local health office areas.
