A Dublin waste disposal and recycling company is to be sentenced in relation to charges arising out of the death of an employee at one of their centres.

Padraic Thornton Waste Disposal pleaded guilty through a director, Mr Paul Thornton, that the company failed to ensure appropriate barriers were provided near the edge of an open excavation at a work premises in Labre Park, Killeen Road, Dublin 10 on or about March 1, 2007 as a consequence of which an employee, Jarleth O’Reilly, suffered personal injury and died.

The company, trading as Thornton Recycling, has an address at Henry Road, Park West Business Park.

Judge Desmond Hogan at Dublin Circuit Criminal ordered a victim impact report and set a sentence date of January 25, 2011 when full facts will be heard in the case.
