The Equality Minister Mary White has said the Government will do all it can to improve maternity leave for Irish women.

New proposals passed yesterday in Europe could see maternity leave being extended to 20 weeks on full pay.

However, it is not yet known whether Ireland will be able to adopt the new measures, as it could cost the Exchequer more than €300m.
