A man has appeared in court charged with the manslaughter of Offaly publican Matt Farrell.

Eddie Wing, aged 29, who has a temporary address at Limerick Street, Roscrea was arrested on Sunday night in Roscrea and brought to Tullamore Garda Station where he was charged with manslaughter and burglary at the Gaelic Bar on April 1, 2009.

At Tullamore District Court today Sergeant Jer Glavin said Wing made no reply when charged with these offences and four other burglaries at pubs in the midlands in February 2009.

Wing was remanded in custody to appear at Cloverhill District Court on Friday, October 22 when a further bail application may be made.

Mr Farrell, aged 65, was found dead his home in the Gaelic Bar, Daingean on April 1, 2009.

The father of five had been tied up, and a post mortem found he died from head injuries.
