There were 18,535 births registered in the first quarter of the year - a fall of over 1% on the same time in 2009.

There were 18,535 births registered in the first quarter of the year - a fall of over 1% on the same time in 2009.

Figures from the Central Statistics office show that 34% - or over 6,300 - of the births were registered as outside of marriage.
