First 'natural' graveyard opens in Wexford

Ireland's first natural graveyard opens to the public today in Co Wexford.

More than 100 plots have already been booked in the seven-acre site at Woodbrook House near the village of Killane.

The burial site has the capacity for about 5,000 plots, and every grave will be marked with the planting of a native Irish tree instead of a headstone.

Colin McAteer of the Green Graveyard Company said the coffins would be made from environmentally-friendly materials including papier mache and bamboo.
