Patients furious that Shine report will not be published

Patients of struck-off medic Michael Shine have demanded an urgent meeting with the Health Minister over a decision not to publish a report on sex abuse allegations.

Support group Dignity 4 Patients says alleged victims gave evidence at great emotional cost and claim it is "inexcusable" the Drogheda Review will not be made public.

Yesterday, Minister Mary Harney said the report cannot be published because there are possible criminal proceedings on the matter.

The group maintains 160 patients have claimed they were abused while Shine worked at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda for 30 years up to 1994.
