The trial opened today of two Lithuanian men accused of murdering a mother-of-two whose body was found in the boot of her own burnt-out car in Co Wexford.
Ruslanas Mineikas, aged 26, and 28-year-old Ricardas Dilys of Goodtide Harbour in Wexford town are charged with murdering 30-year-old Rebecca French on October 9, 2009.
It is alleged Ms French was kicked and beaten with a golf club and died from blunt force trauma to the head, the jury was told.
The court will hear that a number of people were drinking in a house in the Ardnadaire estate in Wexford town and that a neighbour saw four men leaving the property in an Opel car on the afternoon of the October 9 last.
Around 4pm, gardaí despatched to deal with a burning car on a back road near Ferrycarrig say they met four men including the accused.
They were arrested that evening at the house in Ardnadaire where gardaí recovered two golf clubs, wet clothes in the washing machine and items in the fireplace.
The jury will hear post mortem evidence that Ms French, whose body was found in the boot of the burnt Opel, had extensive injuries and that a partly-melted blue plastic bag apparently secured by a cable tie was found around her neck.
