Opposition parties have accused the Government of attempting to lock them into a four-year plan for cuts and tax increases to reduce the deficit in the public finances.

Labour leader Eamon Gilmore said that while opposition parties agree on targets for reducing the deficit - they do not agree on the method for achieving that reduction.
