HSE criticised over placing of children in adult psych unit

Childrens' charity Barnardos is criticising the HSE over the placement of four teenagers in an adult psychiatric unit on Sunday and Monday.

It emerged this morning that four teens - including a 14-year-old - were admitted to the Waterford Adult Mental Health Services.

It was reported that at one point - due to staff shortages - there was one nurse looking after more than 30 patients.

Barnardos CEO Fergus Finlay said that the placement of children in adult units is totally unacceptable - but all too common.
