Employers say volunteers 'more likely' to get jobs

People are being encouraged to get out and work for charities and local groups as part of National Volunteering Day.

Organisers claim 70% of employers say people who volunteer have a better chance of earning a higher salary or gaining promotion.

Up to 80% say they value it on a CV.

Managing Director of Special Olympics Europe/Eurasia Mary Davis said Irish people are particularly well regarded when it comes to volunteering.
