Report: McCreevy earning €132k on top of Ryanair salary

It has been reported that Ireland's former European Commissioner Charlie McCreevy is still earning up to €132,000 a year as part of the EC's transitional payments scheme.

The Financial Times Deutschland said Mr McCreevy is claiming the payment despite a well publicised move to the board of Ryanair.

The European Commission has said its transitional payments scheme is to help former Commissioners like Charlie McCreevy ease into life after Brussels.

It lasts three years and can be anywhere between 45% and 60% of their original salary, meaning the former Finance Minister is getting payments of €11,000 a month.

Mr McCreevy left the Commission in February and was appointed to the board of Ryanair in May where he gets a salary of around €47,000 a year.
