Man charged with stealing car carrying baby
A man has appeared before Nenagh District Court charged with the unlawful taking of a car carrying a four-month-old baby.
Sixty-one-year-old Patrick McCarthy of Mullally Grove, Cappamore, Co Limerick, was arrested yesterday evening after abandoning the car at Nenagh Railway Station.
The car was stolen from Newport just before 3pm yesterday, leading to a 50km chase across north Tipperary involving patrol cars and the garda helicopter.
The baby boy was later reunited with his distraught parents.
McCarthy, who is unemployed and was granted free legal aid, was remanded on bail to appear before the court again on November 5.
