Murder accused sent for trial

A book of evidence was served today on a 33-year-old man who is accused of murdering a 25-year-old man in Cork City in April.

Timothy O’Driscoll from St Rita’s Avenue, Gurranabraher, Cork, was back before Cork District Court today on the charge of murdering of Lee McCarthy at St Rita’s Avenue, Gurranabraher, Cork on Saturday, April 17.

On the application of Inspector Mary King, Judge Con O’Leary returned the case against O’Driscoll to the Central Criminal Court in Dublin for trial by judge and jury.

It will now be a matter for that court to set a date for the trial which is unlikely to take place until some time next year.

O’Driscoll was remanded on continuing bail.

None of the background details of the case were given in court. The allegations against the accused will only be given when the matter comes to trial.
