Ryan: New motor tax law not a 'stealth tax'
The Green Party is strongly denying claims that it is introducing a motor tax hike.
Reports today say Minister John Gormley has ordered a stronger enforcement of the law requiring drivers of commercial vehicles to legally declare the vehicle is for work purposes only.
The minister has asked local authorities to ensure owners of commercial vehicles sign a document in Garda stations saying they won't use their car or van for private use.
It follows an increase in the number of vehicles swithcing from the private to the lower-rate commercial motor tax.
Green Minister Eamon Ryan has insisted it is "nothing new" and is hitting back at reports his party is bringing in a stealth tax.
