Report: Dempsey considering new fuel taxes

Motorists could be hit with new taxes on petrol and diesel.

Transport Minister Noel Dempsey is believed to be considering the move, rather than the imposition of more tolls.

The Sunday Business Post today reports the Minister is examining proposals which would mean motorists pay for the amount of travel they do, so those who drive more pay more.

The money would be used for road improvements and maintenance.
