Gardaí arrest man after east-Cork shot hoax call
Gardaí in east Cork have arrested a 39-year-old man in connection with a hoax phone call which led to a major search operation costing thousands of euro.
Gardaí launched the search operation after receiving a phone call last night saying that a man had been shot somewhere between Redbarn and Claycastle.
Officers - assisted by the coastguard - spent five hours combing the area before the search was stood down shortly after midnight.
The search resumed this morning, but was called off this afternoon when gardaí began searching for the person who made the hoax call.
Gardaí arrested a 39-year-old man in Youghal at around 3pm under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.
