Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to the latest gangland-style shooting in Dublin.

Last night's gun attack took place in Finglas in broad daylight.

Twenty-five-year-old father of two, Daniel Gaynor, was shot a number of times at close range while walking with his partner and two young children.

The shooting took place at the junction of Barnamore Crescent and St Helena's Road at around 6.50pm last night.

It is not yet clear if there is any link between the incident and recent fatal gun attacks in the area.

A lone gunman shot the victim at close range a number of times on the street.

He was rushed to Connolly Hospital in Blanchardstown where he was pronounced dead a short while later.

The deceased is said to have been well-known to Gardaí in the area.

Detectives leading the investigation are currently holding a case conference in Finglas Garda Station.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone with any information to contact them on the confidential line at 1800 666 111
