Committee to examine allowances of two more FF Senators

Complaints surrounding the allowances of two further Fianna Fáil Senators will be considered by the Seanad Members Interests Committee when it meets next week.

The group had been due to meet at the end of August, but the hearing has been brought forward to Monday.

The Committee will study further allegations about Senator Ivor Callely's expenses after allegations he submitted mobile phone invoices from a company which no longer existed.

It will also investigate complaints that Senators Ann Ormonde and Larry Butler were allegedly claiming travel allowances for addresses not listed as their official residence.

Former junior minister Ivor Callely is already facing a Garda investigation into his expenses and Garda Commissioner Fachtna Murphy has written to the clerk of the Seanad, Deirdre Lane, requesting clarification on certain matters.
