An Bord Pleanála has given the green light for a new women's and children's hospital in Dublin.

Landmark Developments and the Beacon Medical Group have been granted planning permission to build the state of the art 120-bed facility in Sandyford.

The hospital, which will be privately operated, can be used by both private and public patients.

Some 550 people will employed during the construction of the hospital while 450 people will be employed at the facility when it is up and running.

The hospital will be located next to the Beacon's General Hospital.
