FG's Creighton criticises acceptance of developers' donations

The Fine Gael TD Lucinda Creighton has lashed out at her own party for inviting developers who owe money to NAMA to make political donations.
Speaking at the MacGill Summer School in Glenties, she said it was not a good image for Fine Gael to have NAMA developers and bankers photographed playing golf with the party leader, as at a recent event in the K-Club.
She said political parties had a responsibility to exercise discretion and good judgement on the sources of donations.
"I'm very critical of the party receiving donations from developers who are associated with NAMA," she said.
Earlier, the party's director of elections Phil Hogan said Fine Gael would oppose plans by the Government to introduce legislation banning corporate donations.
Speaking at the MacGill Summer School, he said the party makes no apology, and offers no favours in return, for accepting corporate gifts.
