Cork father gets seven years for attempt to smuggle cocaine
A Cork father of three, who attempted to smuggle more than €70,000 worth of pellets of cocaine in his body into Ireland has been given a seven-year sentence at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.
Anthony Camara (aged 30) of Green Park, Mahon, pleaded guilty to possession of the drugs for sale or supply at Dublin Airport on February 21, 2009.
Camara, who is originally from Sierra Leone and is married to an Irish woman, was caught with the 100 pellets of cocaine and one kilogram of cocaine, when he was searched at the airport by customs.
Judge Patricia Ryan said on handing down the sentence that she took into consideration his “good work ethic and the hardship a prison sentence would have on his wife and children”.
“He was caught red-handed,” remarked judge Ryan.
