Teen arrested in connection with gangland killing

A 16-year-old boy has been arrested in connection with the murder of Stephen “Madzer” Byrne in Dublin on Tuesday.

The teen was detained in the north inner city at about 2pm.

A Garda spokesman said the teenager was being questioned at Store Street Garda Station under Section 30 of the Offences Against The State Act.

The juvenile is the third individual to be detained in connection with the killing of Byrne, who was shot in the head and chest.

A teenager and a man in his 20s were both arrested following raids late on Tuesday.

Both were released without charge today and a file will be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions, the spokesman said.

The attack took place at 4.45pm on Tuesday at the corner of Sheriff Street and St Laurence Place East, a stone’s throw from Dublin’s financial district.

Byrne, from Mariner’s Port, Sheriff Street, was the prime suspect for the murder of Stephen Ledden, 28, in nearby Upper Oriel Street in 2006.
