Callelly under pressure from Minister to pay back expenses

Communications Minister Eamon Ryan is today calling on Senator Ivor Callelly to pay back the €80,000 he claimed in expenses from the Seanad.

He is the first Government Minister to do so. Minister Ryan says it would help restore faith in the system.

Senator Callelly has been suspended without pay or expenses following a Seanad Committee's decision that he inappropriately claimed the expenses from an address in West Cork.

He strenuously denies the findings.
