Reward offered for information on taxi driver's death

A €10,000 reward is on offer for information about two men believed to be the last to see a popular taxi driver alive 21 years ago today.

Henry Hurley, 32, was found dead near Sixmilebridge, Co Clare, after being attacked.

Garda detectives from the cold-case unit revealed the cab driver from Limerick city was last seen alive in 1989 in his new white Nissan taxi.

Mr Hurley had two men in the car with him, one in the front and the other in the rear of the cab, as he passed between Setrights Cross and Gallows Hill at about 3am on July 7.

Crimestoppers made a fresh appeal and offered the cash reward to the public to help identify the two men in the cab.

Gardai in Ennis are working with the detectives from the Serious Crime Review Team on the case.

Senior investigator Detective Sergeant Kevin O’Hagan urged anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area on the night to come forward.

“At the time they might have thought it insignificant but we would appreciate it now. We do accept 21 years has gone by and a lot of people’s memory may have waned in that time,” the detective said.

“But also there may be people out there who did know maybe more and at this stage we are still quite happy to receive information.”

Superintendent John Scanlon said maybe someone saw the men being picked up in Limerick city by Henry on the night in question.

“Maybe these men were not from the area and were staying in the Cratloe/Sixmilebridge area at the time”.

“I am appealing to anybody who might have any information that would help us with our inquiry to come forward now”.
