Cowen heckled on Limerick visit

The Taoiseach has been heckled by a group of protestors in Limerick, who were demonstrating against cuts in respite services.

Brian Cowen is on a visit to the city to see projects due to be undertaken as part of the Limerick regeneration project.

The visit started in Moyross with a board meeting of the regeneration agency, almost two weeks after the Government gave the go-ahead for phase one of the €330m regeneration project.

"We're here discussing Limerick…This is important news for the mid-west…If you don't mind, we'll concentrate on that."

When protesters in St Mary's Park insisted on talking about possible cuts in respite services, the Taoiseach said the Government was trying to make sure services were not hit.

A number of demonstrators started to heckle the Taoiseach, shouting: "Shame on you…You sold us down the river…You're a disgrace."
