The British Ambassador to Ireland Julian King says public opinion here towards a visit by the Queen of England has been overwhelmingly positive.

The British Ambassador to Ireland Julian King says public opinion here towards a visit by the Queen of England has been overwhelmingly positive.

It follows comments by the Taoiseach, who said that no great obstacle now exists to an official State visit by Queen Elizabeth by the end of next year.

Brian Cowen was speaking following his first official meeting with British Prime Minister David Cameron at Downing Street on Wednesday.
