Palestinian envoy calls on Ireland to pressurise Israel

The Palestinian envoy to Ireland Dr Hikmat Ajjuri has called on the Government here to put pressure on Israel to end the blockade of Gaza.

Dr Ajjuri told the Oireachtas Committee on European Affairs that "Israeli arrogance" can only be overcome with international pressure.

He said only a credible third party can negotiate a lasting peace agreement between the Israelis and the Palestinians.

Dr Ajjuri called on the Irish Government to play its role in helping to convince Israel to bring an end to the blockade of Gaza.
