Israeli Ambassador to face Oireachtas Committee

The Israeli Ambassador will today attend a special meeting of the Oireachtas European Affairs Committee to discuss the situation in Gaza.

Earlier this month Zion Evrony withdrew at short notice from meeting the Committee in the wake of the controversy over the attack by Israeli forces on an aid flotilla bound for Gaza.

He is scheduled to attend the meeting today, along with his Palestinian counterpart in Ireland.

The meeting will consider the Israeli undertaking to ease the blockade on Gaza.

It will also look into whether Israeli has broken the terms of its trade agreement with the EU by refusing to allow the free passage of aid supplies.

Ahead of today's meeting, Trócaire is calling on the government to strongly oppose the blockade on Gaza.
