Internet firm creates 50 jobs

Fifty jobs are to be created at an internet firm in south Dublin, the Government said today.

Weedle, a technology company based in Blackrock, developed a free website for users to showcase skills and expertise.

Enterprise Minister Batt O’Keeffe said the firm developed a pioneering business.

“Weedle typifies the strong capacity of indigenous Irish firms to innovate in niche markets with high-potential online platforms that can spur the next generation of global internet brand-leaders,” he said.

The website, which has been live for three months, has thousands of users across 50 countries.

Iain MacDonald, one of the founders of the company, said the website will connect professionals and generate increased demand for skills and services.

“In Ireland, the US and globally, there is a wealth of highly skilled people with great expertise,” Mr MacDonald said.

“But despite there being significant demand from people who need these skills and expertise, there is no free large-scale simple way to match people with skills to those who need them.”

The 50 jobs will be created over the next three years.
