Driver who evaded gardaí dies in hospital
A motorist who was seriously injured when gardaí tried to stop his car died today in hospital.
The Garda Siochana Ombudsman Commission (GSOC) named the victim as 21-year-old Daniel Connors of Portadown, Co Armagh.
The driver crashed his car into a second vehicle when he tried to avoid officers, who wanted to interview him, on Wednesday afternoon.
The incident in Dundalk was referred to the GSOC under section 102 of the Garda Siochana Act 2005.
Investigators confirmed Mr Connors died at approximately 12.30pm in Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda. “His next of kin have been informed,” they said.
Meanwhile the ombudsman’s office is continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
