Gormley expects Kenny to remain as FG leader
Green Party leader John Gormley today said he expects Enda Kenny to continue as leader of Fine Gael saying Deputy Kenny has come out fighting.
His comments follow widespread reports that Fine Gael deputy leader Richard Bruton will challenge Deputy Kenny's leadership tomorrow.
The Environment Minister also said he has his doubts that Deputy Bruton would succeed if he decided to do so.
He added that he does not understand the timing of the move.
"I don't understand this from a political tactic point of view - it seems to be quite stupid, frankly," Minister Gormley said.
"But that's a matter for the Fine Gael party and I don't wish to intrude into their particular territory. It's up to them to choose whoever their leader is.
"But as I said, Mr Kenny has come out fighting and I expect he will continue as leader."
