Two held in connection with Dundalk drugs seizure

Two men have been arrested in Co Louth following a drugs seizure in Dundalk yesterday.

Two men are being questioned today after detectives uncovered a haul of cocaine.

In a third major drugs discovery during one day, an estimated €210,000 worth of the drug was seized near Dundalk.

Gardai stopped a car on the M1 motorway outside the town at around 8.45pm last night.

A search turned up the cocaine stash, which has been sent for forensic analysis, and a knife.

Two men in the car, aged 33 and 29, were arrested and taken to Dundalk Garda Station.

One is being held under section 2 of the Drug Trafficking Act and the other is being detained under section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.

The find came just hours after the discovery of around 1,100 cannabis plants and nine stun guns during a raid in west Dublin.

The elaborate and high-tech cultivation factory was discovered in sheds at the rear of a house on Blakestown Road, Blanchardstown.

Gardai estimate the street value of the plants is up to €450,000. A 26-year-old man is being questioned by detectives.

Also yesterday, heroin thought to be worth €150,000 was seized during a house raid in Ballyfermot, west Dublin, and a 19-year-old man was arrested at the scene.

A Garda spokesman said none of the discoveries were linked and all were the result of separate operations.
