Man caught with drugs in court

A “recreational drug user” caught with heroin at Tallaght District Court is to be sentenced at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court next month.

David Evans (aged 23) of Sundale Villas, Tallaght pleaded guilty to possession of 6.407 grams of heroin with a value of €1,281 for sale or supply at the court on December 1, 2008.

Detective Garda Jerome Twomey told Mr James Dwyer BL, prosecuting, that on foot of receiving confidential information he searched Evans in the custody area of the court house.

“As he removed his footwear a small plastic package dropped on the floor and Evans told me it was heroin and that it was his,” said Det Twomey.

Evans, a father of two young children, has 182 previous convictions for road traffic offences, public order and criminal damage.

Judge Joseph Matthews adjourned sentencing until July as only one urine analysis was completed while Evans has been in custody since February.

“I would like to be able to help him but for some reason the urine analysis wasn’t done. He has a drug problem and I want to be advised as to the extent of it,” said Judge Matthews, remanding Evans in custody
