Controversial M3 to open today

The controversial M3 motorway through county Meath opens today - potentially cutting journeys between Cavan and Dublin by an hour.

The 60 kilometre road - which cost €1bn - provoked legal action and protests due to its route past the historic Hill of Tara.

The motorway starts at Clonee and continues through county Meath up to north of Kells close to the Cavan border.
