Two men were killed in separate road crashes today.

Two men were killed in separate road crashes today.

The first happened at Coolavacoose on the main road between Carbury and Edenderry in Co Kildare at around 6.45am and involved two cars.

The 40-year-old male driver of one of the vehicles was killed, while the driver and passenger of the other suffered injuries not believed to be serious, gardai said.

The R402 at Coolavacoose was closed to allow a forensic examination of the scene.

Less than two hours later two vehicles crashed at Barnagh, Newcastle West, Co Limerick at about 8.30am.

The male driver of one of the vehicles, aged in his mid 20s, was killed and the driver of the second car was injured, but not seriously.

Witnesses to both crashes were asked to come forward.
