Four held in gang crime crackdown
Three men and a woman were arrested and a firearm seized in Limerick today as part of a crackdown on gang crime.
The suspects, all in their mid-20s, were stopped in a car near Ballyneety on the outskirts of the city at around 1pm.
A brief struggle ensued and a member of the emergency response unit (ERU) received facial injuries when he was struck by the door of the vehicle.
He was taken to Limerick Regional Hospital, while two of the suspects also received superficial injuries which did not require medical attention.
The incident has been referred to the Garda Ombudsman.
The arrests were carried out by local gardaà and members of the ERU and regional support unit as part of a continuing investigation into organised crime in the city.
The three men were taken to Bruff, Roxboro Road and Mayorstone Garda stations and the woman to Henry Street Garda station for questioning.
