Death of Laois FF Senator

Laois Fianna Fáil Senator Kieran Phelan has died at the age of 61.

He passed away at St Vincent's Hospital in Dublin this morning.

Senator Phelan was elected to Laois County Council in 1991 as a councillor for Borris-in-Ossory, where he topped the poll in 1999.

In 2007, he was elected to the Seanad.

Senator Phelan is survived by his wife Mary and his five children.
