Four people died in separate accidents over the weekend - two of them in accidents involving motorcycles.

Last night a male pedestrian who was in his late 20s died from his injuries in St. Vincent's hospital.

He was the fourth person to die in a road accident in just two days.

The man was struck by a car on the Stillorgan Dual Carriageway at 3.40am on Sunday morning.

It happened on the N11 between the Stillorgan Park Hotel and Oatlands school.

He was taken to St Vincent's hospital where he died at about 8.40pm that evening.

Early on Sunday morning a promising member of the Meath Minor football team was killed in a road accident in Meath.

Liam Tolan, 17, from Skryne was a passenger in a car which went off the road at Ballyhack, Kilbrew near Ashbourne shortly after midnight.

The driver and the second passenger in the car were not injured.

On Saturday a woman aged 30 who was a passenger on a motorcycle died in a crash at Clootumper in Ballyhaunis in Co. Mayo.

In a separate accident also involving a motorcycle on Saturday a 34-year-old motorcyclist died near Kinvara in Co Galway.
