A teenager has been killed and a pedestrian is in a serious condition in hospital following separate road collisions in Meath and Dublin.

A teenager has been killed and a pedestrian is in a serious condition in hospital following separate road collisions in Meath and Dublin.

Both incidents occured in the early hours of this morning.

Shortly after midnight, a car collided with a ditch at Ballyhack, Kilbrew close to Ashbourne. A 17-year-old male passenger was seriously injured and died later at Our Lady's Hospital in Navan.

The driver and a second passenger, also teenage boys, were uninjured.

Local diversions are in place.

Some hours later in Dublin, a male pedestrian was struck by a car on the Stillorgan dual carriageway at 3.40am.

He was taken to St Vincent's hospital where he is in a serious condition. It happened on the N11 Northbound between the Stillorgan Park Hotel and Oatlands School.

A section of the road is closed and diversions are in place.
