European Obesity Day highlights health risks of excess weight

Around 2,000 people die early due to obesity-related illness in Ireland each year, and almost one in five people is clinically obese.

European Obesity Day takes place today, to raise awareness about the health implications of being overweight.

President of the Irish Pharmacy Union Darragh O'Loughlin said: "Obesity is more a health issue than a fashion, or a cosmetic, issue."
