Emergency surgery for man shot by gardaí in Cork pub
A man was undergoing emergency surgery tonight after he was shot by gardaí in a Cork city pub.
The man is understood to have entered the Mo Chuisle bar on Blarney Street at around 6.40pm brandishing a double-barrelled loaded shotgun.
He is believed to have been shot once in the stomach by members of the Gardaí's Regional Support Unit after they confronted him and ordered him to drop the weapon.
The man was rushed to Cork University Hospital, where his condition is said to be serious.
It is understood the man entered the bar on Blarney Street waving the weapon and demanding to see the owner.
The gunman’s uncle is thought to have died two years ago following a scuffle when he was refused service at the pub.
The Garda Ombudsman has taken over the investigation and the scene was sealed off while a technical examination was conducted.
