New IMPACT general secretary to be ratified

Shay Cody will be ratified as IMPACT's new general secretary at the union's biennial conference in Kilkenny today.

He will address delegates this morning along with outgoing general secretary Peter McLoone, who is to retire later in the year.

Last night IMPACT President John Power said the Croke Park deal was the best that could be secured in the current circumstances.

The country's largest public sector union is now balloting its 60,000 members with a recommendaion to accept.

The result will be known on June 11.
