Rescuers searching for a man swept out to sea in West Clare have recovered a body this afternoon.

Rescuers searching for a man swept out to sea in West Clare have recovered a body this afternoon.

The remains of the 29-year-old man were pulled from the water shortly before 3pm nearly 24 hours after he was hit by a wave and pulled out to sea near Loop Head.

The Valentia Coastguard coordinated the search operation which also involved Coastguard units from Kilkee and Doolin, the Kilrush RNLI and navy divers.
