No flights at Dublin Airport from 7pm
The Irish Aviation Authority IAA has confirmed that all flights in and out of Dublin Airport will be grounded from 7pm until 9am tomorrow morning, with Waterford closing at 11pm.
Donegal, Sligo, Ireland West (Knock) and Galway will remain closed until tomorrow, while Shannon, Cork and Kerry airports will remain open until further notice.
The restrictions have been enforced due to the increased volcanic activity and ash cloud drifting over Irish airspace.
North Atlantic overflights through Irish-controlled airspace remain unaffected.
The IAA said: “These latest restrictions have been enforced as extensive observations of the drift of the ash cloud, the volcano’s activity and the latest weather forecasts indicate an increased quantity of ash over Irish airspace.”
Elsewhere, UK authorities have imposed a no-fly zone stretching from Prestwick on the west coast to Humberside on the east coast and south to a line just north of Birmingham.
“Airports which fall within the no-fly zone include all those in Northern Ireland, Ronaldsway, Prestwick, Carlisle, Manchester, Liverpool, Doncaster, Humberside, Leeds Bradford and East Midlands and some Scottish island airports including Campbeltown, Islay and Barra,” said NATs.
London airports are not affected at the moment.
