Jury clears facelift medical staff of role in Limerick woman's death
A New York jury has cleared an anaesthesiologist and a nurse of contributing to the death of a Limerick woman after a facelift.
Kay Cregan's husband Liam took a legal action following her death in 2005 after the procedure at the Central Park South office of a plastic surgeon.
Ms Cregan collapsed in a recovery room of Michael Sachs Manhattan cosmetic surgery clinic after undergoing a facelift operation.
The 42-year-old mother of two was transferred to a nearby hospital but died on St Patrick's Day in 2005.
Her husband Liam - who was not aware of her intention to have the surgery - took a legal action against a nurse and anaesthesiologist.
Late last night however, the jury in the civil action cleared them both of the claim that they had contributed substantially to Ms Cregan's death.
Lawyers for Sachs and the nurse settled with the Cregan family for a total of €3.1m.
