Some crimes up almost 25% in last year

The numbers of cases of robbery, extortion and hijacking have risen by almost a quarter in the past 12 months, official figures show today.

New recorded crime figures from the Central Statistics Office show there were 676 such cases recorded by March 2009, but that figure rose to 840 by the end of March 2010.
