Justice Minister Dermot Ahern today confirmed more new Gardai will be recruited before the end of the year after he lifted the moratorium on hiring imposed by the Government due to the financial crisis.

Justice Minister Dermot Ahern today confirmed more new Guardia will be recruited before the end of the year after he lifted the moratorium on hiring imposed by the Government due to the financial crisis.

The announcement was due to have been made at the GRA conference earlier this week. Minister Ahern pulled out of a scheduled appearance at the conference after details emerged of a controversial speech in which the Government was accused of being corrupted by years of power.
