Quinn Insurance workers' representatives have told an Oireachtas Committee in Dublin today that there has been 50 expressions of interest from investors in Quinn Insurance.

Quinn Insurance workers' representatives have told an Oireachtas Committee in Dublin today that there has been 50 expressions of interest from investors in Quinn Insurance.

They told TDs and Senators that 55% of Quinn’s 1.3 million customers were in the UK, with the ban on processing new business in the UK costing the business 62,000 new customers so far or 2,000 every day.

Workers' spokeswoman Mona Bermingham told the hearing that jobs had been unnecessarily put at risk by the closure of operations in the British market.

She said it could have been kept open, with segments closed if and when they were proven to be unprofitable, to safeguard as many jobs as possible.

“These are people’s lives,” she said.

“This is now, unfortunately, about damage limitation – minimising needless job losses whilst allowing the administrators to conduct due diligence on the business.”
