Conjoined twins stable in hospital

Conjoined twins Hassan and Hussein Benhaffaf from Cork - separated by surgeons earlier this month - remain in in a stable condition in intensive care at Great Ormond Street Hospital in London.

In a statement this afternoon, the hospital said the twins are "broadly where the medical team expected them to be at this point".

Their mother, Angie, is describing the last two weeks as "extremely tough, with some dark clouds hovering over their little cots".

About 20 staff, including four anaesthetists and four surgeons, worked in shifts during the complex procedure.

The boys were joined at the chest but did not share any major organs.
